Students won’t need to wear uniforms to school this year

This comes after a slew of announcements made today on the reopening of schools by senior education minister Radzi Jidin.

Schoolchildren will not be required to wear their uniforms to school but have to make sure their clothes are neat and appropriate.
PETALING JAYA:
Students will not need to wear their school uniforms and can opt to wear their own clothes when physical classes resume.

However, senior minister for education Radzi Jidin emphasised that the attire worn to school must be appropriate and neat.

“By the time we reopen schools, parents might notice that their children can’t fit into their uniforms.

“As such, we’ll allow them to wear neat and appropriate clothes if they can’t fit into their uniforms.

“Our goal is merely to bring them back to school and not to punish them (for not wearing their uniforms),” he said during a press conference to announce the government’s plan to reopen schools according to the various phases of the national recovery plan.

Face masks will be compulsory throughout the school day for those who attend classes in person.

The education ministry will begin reopening schools in stages beginning on Oct 3, with most institutions to remain shut in states under Phases 1 and 2.

In Phase 3 and 4, more schools will be allowed to open but the majority may only do so on a rotational basis, with classes split into two groups that attend school on alternate weeks.
