PETALING JAYA:
Malaysia should push for a ban on unvaccinated travellers from flying in and out of the country, said the National Union of Flight Attendants Malaysia (Nufam).

Its president Ismail Nasaruddin said that anti-vaxxers may have their views and rights on vaccination against Covid-19, but it was crucial to show that everyone must be safe to fly.

“Travellers fly in and out from every country and everyone needs to cooperate to avoid infections. We do not know who may be infected and is endangering others,” he told FMT.

Furthermore, he said all flight crew were vaccinated and passengers must do the same.

Yesterday, Qantas confirmed its “no-jab, no-fly” policy for international passengers. This comes as Australia gears up to reopen some international routes by Christmas.

Ismail hoped the Malaysian government would consider a similar policy immediately to stop unvaccinated people from flying.

“Flight crews have their concerns and do not want to be infected by those refusing the vaccine or have not received both doses,” Ismail added.

Nufam would also raise the issue during discussions with other airline unions.

“Fully vaccinated travellers remain our priority for now,” he added.
