PETALING JAYA:
Fully vaccinated individuals are now allowed to participate in indoor sports activities in states under Phase 1 of the national recovery plan from Friday onwards, said Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

However, gyms have yet to be given the green light.

“Indoor commercial sports and recreation facilities are allowed to open for those who have been fully vaccinated,” said Ismail in a statement.

“Appointments are required to use such facilities and individuals must also comply with SOPs.”

Ismail said the decision was made based on the current risk assessment made by the health ministry and National Security Council.

Earlier today, health minister Khairy Jamaluddin promised some “good news” for those keen on sports, just hours after youth and sports minister Ahmad Faizal Azumu had urged the health minister to allow such activities to resume.

“For gyms, the health ministry will be jointly developing some ventilation guidelines with MKN that need to be adhered to,” he said on Twitter.

“This will not take long, but because of the nature of indoor fitness centres, we must stress on certain ventilation requirements. Working on it urgently.”
