In a series of Twitter posts, Khairy said Faizal’s request for outdoor team sports to be allowed to resume was reasonable.
He said the matter was discussed at the National Security Council (MKN)’s meeting today and a decision was made, adding that ‘good news will be announced’.
“For gyms, the health ministry will be jointly developing some ventilation guidelines with MKN that needs to be adhered to.
“This will not take long, but because of the nature of indoor fitness centres, we must stress on certain ventilation requirements. Working on it urgently,” he said.
Earlier today, in his own Twitter post, Faizal asked Khairy whether gyms and outdoor sports would be allowed to resume, after the prime minister announced that cinemas could reopen from tomorrow.
The Bersatu deputy president said these sports sectors could be allowed to reopen with strict SOPs in place, adding that many business operators in the industry were at their wit’s end.
“Cinemas opened? Gyms and outdoor sports? Please, YB Khairy, there needs to be wisdom in our decisions,” he told his Cabinet colleague.
