Patriot wants ministers, deputies to declare assets in 100 days

The veterans association also wants the Cabinet to eradicate corruption and overcome the pandemic.

National Patriots Association president Mohamed Arshad Raji has given a list of 10 demands to Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
PETALING JAYA:
The National Patriots Association (Patriot) has asked ministers, their deputies and political appointees to publicly declare their assets within 100 days.

Patriot president Brig-Gen (Rtd) Mohamed Arshad Raji said this was among the 10 demands they had for Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

In a statement, he said Patriot also wanted the government to stop appointing politicians to the boards of government-linked companies, to ensure easy access for the public to all MPs, and to appoint an independent professional body to evaluate the 100-day performance of ministers and their deputies.

Arshad said those who failed to perform should be replaced.

He said Ismail must prove himself to be an effective and capable leader and should consider Patriot’s list of demands if he expects the people to work with him in addressing the pandemic and economic crises and to fight corruption.

He said time was the key as the country had been in the grip of Covid-19 since early last year and movement control orders had failed to reduce the number of cases.

Arshad said Ismail must consider all of Patriot’s demands for greater transparency and accountability.

“We believe the rakyat, out of their love for their nation, demand the very best from ministers and deputy ministers.

“They will no longer tolerate deadwood and underperformers so common in the previous administrations,” he said.
