Former minister Richard Riot Jaem has also been appointed a special envoy for East Asia.

PETALING JAYA:
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and Progressive Democratic Party president Tiong King Sing will continue in their respective roles as special envoys to the Middle East and China.

This was confirmed by the Prime Minister’s Office today.

Additionally, former minister Richard Riot Jaem has also been appointed a special envoy for East Asia.

The two MPs were previously appointed by former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin under the Perikatan Nasional-led administration. The special envoy post is a ministerial-level position.

“The first Cabinet meeting held on Sept 1, 2021, has agreed to continue with the appointment of Abdul Hadi Awang as special envoy to the Middle East, Tiong King Seng as special envoy to China, and Richard Riot as special envoy to East Asia,” PMO said.

Hadi has been in politics for more than four decades. The Marang MP once served as the Terengganu menteri besar following PAS’ victory in the state in the 1999 general election.

Tiong, who is the Bintulu MP, had previously served as the prime minister’s special envoy to the Far East, covering Japan, Korea and Taiwan from 2014 to 2018.

Meanwhile, Riot is the MP for Serian and a former human resources minister.
