In his daily Covid-19 statement today, state local government and housing minister Masidi Manjun said 24 of these were infants under the age of one.
He added 165 were children aged one to five while 426 cases involved six to seventeen year-olds.
The bulk of the infections involved patients aged between 18 and 59 with 1,492 cases while 222 cases involved those aged above 60, he said.
Today’s infections involving children and teenagers were slightly fewer than yesterday’s 695 cases comprising 29 infants aged below one, 200 children aged one to five, and 466 cases involving six to seventeen year olds.

Masidi, who is the state spokesman on Covid-19, also said 706 out of the 2,329 cases comprised patients who have been fully vaccinated while 274 are those with at least one dose of the vaccine.
Meanwhile, a 44-year-old trainer at a police training centre (Pulapol) at Mukim Petagas near here triggered the Jalan Pahlawan cluster which has left at least 45 people infected.
Masidi said those infected comprised police trainees, other trainers, staff at the training centre’s mess hall as well as their family members.
“Besides Kota Kinabalu, there were also infections in Penampang related to the cluster,” he said.
He said the index patient, who resides at a police housing block in Kepayan here, tested positive for the virus on Aug 26 after experiencing symptoms two days earlier.
“Out of the 72 people screened, 45 tested positive. This includes 41 new cases today,” he said, adding that eight people tested negative, while the remaining 18 test results are still pending.
