In a statement today, SSR said Shakila received a package on Monday from an anonymous sender containing a replica of a bloody, severed hand and a letter threatening her with an acid attack.
Yesterday, Shakila received a WhatsApp message containing sexual connotations and an attached photograph of an indecent poster with her personal details.
“Shakila believes the harassment and threats are the result of a video of her talking about the #Lawan rally on July 31, which has gone viral on TikTok.
“Even though she is not a part of SSR, these threats, intimidation and sexual harassment are extreme and unacceptable,” SSR said.
The NGO added that Shakila has since lodged two police reports on the matter at the North Klang district police headquarters.
It stressed that such intimidation tactics are criminal offences and should be condemned by the public, warning that such issues could become a dangerous norm if left unaddressed.
Speaking to Malaysiakini, North Klang district deputy police chief Mohd Khairi Shafie said the case is currently being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code, which relates to criminal intimidation by anonymous communication.
