In a statement, Ismail said some RM3.1 billion had been channelled to banking institutions today for Phase 1 of the special aid payout.
He noted that the special aid was supposed to be handed out to recipients in August.
“The crediting process for Phase 1 will start on Sept 6 and is expected to be completed on Sept 10. The BKC will benefit 10 million recipients from the hardcore poor, B40 and M40 as well as eligible singles,” he said.
The subsequent phases of payments for eligible groups will be announced by finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz.
“I am always sensitive to the people’s grievances and hope that this BKC payment will be able to alleviate the burden of the people affected by Covid-19.
“The government remains committed to ensuring the well-being of Malaysian families, especially those in the targeted groups,” said Ismail.
The additional assistance was announced as part of the Pemulih aid package announced in late June, which saw a total of RM150 billion in aid measures unveiled.
