In a Facebook post, the DAP leader asked if Khairy would take action against those responsible for allowing the man to die or let his death be just “another number” in the daily list of Covid-19 fatalities.
Ramasamy maintained that the man could have been saved if there were medical personnel stationed at the Covid-19 ward and also called for Kedah health director Dr Othman Warijo’s resignation.
He claimed that Othman’s response to the incident was hasty and defensive, being quick to deny allegations that hospital staff did not attend to the man.
“The matter of him falling down and getting up must have taken a few minutes, but what happened to the staff. Why were they missing, was it because they decided that the patients cannot be saved?
“If Othman cannot take responsibility, then the honourable thing for him to do is to resign. The staff who were supposed to have been present should also be sacked for dereliction of duty,” he said.
A 38-second video clip had circulated on social media yesterday showing a weak-looking patient on his knees on the floor of the hospital trying to pull himself up by holding on to a bed.
The video was cut short and continued with footage showing the patient lying motionless with a urine bag still beside him while a patient tried to approach and examine him.
The individual who posted the video online alleged that the Covid-19 patient was left unattended by ward staff until he was confirmed dead 40 minutes later.
But Othman denied that staff at the hospital were late in responding and treating the patient, saying the department was collecting information on the incident and had discussions with the relevant staff to complete the investigation.
