Klang MP Charles Santiago said the township still needed its eight PPVs as herd immunity had yet to set in since the data of those vaccinated in the MySejahtera app did not match the information on Klang’s total population.
Santiago also said PPVs were the best platform to manage registrations compared to MySejahtera.
“The daily rate of active Covid-19 cases and infectivity in Klang clearly shows that many are still not vaccinated,” he said in a letter posted on Facebook, which was sent to the science, technology and innovation ministry (Mosti).
Santiago said the government had also spent a large amount of money to open each PPV, adding that allowing only ‘mega PPVs’ to operate would only increase the risk of new clusters emerging.
The switch from PPVs to only the MySejahtera app could lead to difficulty and confusion for first-dose recipients who were not IT-savvy.
“In this regard, I seek cooperation from the ministry to review the closure of PPVs in Klang to encourage the public to continue to use these facilities in order to boost the vaccination rate here,” he said.
Yesterday, it was reported that several PPVs in the Klang Valley will be closed in stages as the region inches closer to achieving its Covid-19 immunisation target.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the health ministry and private medical practitioners will now do the necessary to cater to future needs of Covid-19 vaccinations for new registrants, young people and for potential booster doses should the need arise.
“ProtectHealth through private medical practitioners has performed an outstanding job in assisting the government achieve vaccination targets in Selangor and the Klang Valley.
“Moving forward, we will be gradually closing down the PPVs. The health ministry with private medical practitioners will do the mopping up and for the future needs which will arise from newly eligible recipients, new registrants in MySejahtera, the 12 to 17-year-olds and the potential booster dose,” he tweeted.
