Hearing date fixed for Kit Siang’s suit against ex-IGP

The DAP veteran had filed a defamation suit against Hanif Omar over a speech in 2018.

Lim Kit Siang sued Hanif Omar over a speech made at Universiti Teknoloji Mara in Shah Alam.
KUALA LUMPUR:
A defamation suit by veteran DAP politician Lim Kit Siang against former Inspector-General of Police Hanif Omar will be heard by the High Court here from Sept 20.

Lim’s lawyer, Sangeet Kaur Deo, said the hearing had been set from Sept 20-23, before Judicial Commissioner Quay Chew Soon.

Lim filed the suit in October 2018 about alleged defamatory statements by Hanif while delivering a speech at the “Karamah Bangsa” convention at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Shah Alam on Sept 6, 2018, which was published by Sinar Harian on the same day. The newspaper was named as the second defendant.

Lim alleged that the defamatory words were intended to mean that he (Lim) planned to instruct the DAP to separate Peninsular Malaysia into two parts based on race, and to split the Malay and Chinese communities.

He also accused Sinar Harian of acting maliciously by publishing the defamatory words.
