LRT service disrupted after woman falls onto tracks

Transit operator says it is embarking on a full audit of its stations' safety and security measures.

Rapid KL said it is cooperating with the authorities to ensure a thorough investigation of the incident.
PETALING JAYA:
The LRT Ampang/Sri Petaling line has been disrupted after a “track intrusion incident” involving a female commuter this afternoon at 4.45pm.

Sentul district police chief Beh Eng Lai had said in an earlier statement that a woman had fallen onto the tracks and was crushed by a train, and that they had been unable to ascertain her identity.

In a Facebook post, transit operator Rapid KL said personnel from the police, fire and rescue department, the health ministry, Hospital Kuala Lumpur and the Land Public Transport Agency were investigating the incident.

“We are deeply saddened by this incident and would like to apologise to our passengers for the service disruption. For the safety of all involved, the LRT Sentul Timur Station and LRT PWTC Station will remain closed until further notice,” the company said in a statement.

“Rapid KL will give full cooperation to the authorities to ensure a thorough investigation is carried out. We are also embarking on a comprehensive audit of our stations’ safety and security measures in order to minimise risks of such incidents in the future.”

Service on the LRT Ampang/Sri Petaling line from the Putra Heights station heading towards Ampang is operating normally until the Sultan Ismail station.

From there, complimentary shuttle buses are provided at 30-minute intervals to the Sentul Timur Station, and vice-versa.

Rapid KL also appealed to the public not to share photos of the incident online out of respect to the deceased, and asked that people not speculate on the nature of the incident.
