Speaker has asked us to name choice for PM, say MPs

All elected representatives have been told to submit their candidate's name by 4pm tomorrow.

According to the letter, the MPs can submit the name of their choice for prime minister via email, fax or a PDF on WhatsApp by 4pm tomorrow.
PETALING JAYA:
Dewan Rakyat speaker Azhar Azizan Harun has asked each MP to provide statutory declarations (SDs) to declare their support for a prime minister candidate, according to MPs.

Speaking to FMT, two opposition MPs confirmed receiving the notice this morning.

In the notice, everyone has been asked to submit their SDs by 4pm tomorrow.

While there was no set format for the SDs, MPs were informed that this should include details of only one candidate, with a clear and unconditional declaration of the MP’s support.

The SDs should also include the date, the MP’s signature, the signature of a witness or official stamp if the witness was an advocate, solicitor, commissioner of oaths or notary public.

It is to be forwarded to the King’s private secretary, Col (Rtd) Nazim Mohd Alim, either through fax, email or in PDF form on Whatsapp.

Physical submissions are not allowed as, according to the letter, Istana Negara is in an area still under Phase 1 of the national recovery plan. It is also to avoid further transmission of Covid-19 in the palace grounds.

MPs were also reminded to maintain the confidentiality of their SDs until the King makes a decision.

FMT has reached out to Azhar for confirmation.

Yesterday, Muhyiddin Yassin and his Cabinet tendered their resignations to the King after losing majority support.

Muhyiddin will serve as caretaker prime minister until his successor is appointed.
