PETALING JAYA:
The government will allow 11 more economic activities in states under Phase 1 of the national recovery plan (NRP) from tomorrow.

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said the decision was taken after considering the risk analysis carried out by the health ministry, domestic trade and consumer affairs ministry, and discussions with the stakeholders in the respective trades.

The 11 are:

1. Car wash centres;
2. Electrical and electronic shops;
3. Household items and kitchenware shops;
4. Furniture shops;
5. Sportswear shops;
6. Car accessory shops;
7. Car sales and distribution centres;
8. Morning markets and agricultural markets;
9. Fashion and accessory centres;
10. Jewellery shops; and
11. Hairdressers, barbers and beauty parlours (only for haircuts).

Muhyiddin said operators must ensure their customers produce their digital Covid-19 vaccination certificate before allowing them in.

Putrajaya has also agreed to allow non-essential activities in the manufacturing, construction, mining and quarry sectors in states under Phase 1, 2 and 3 of the national recovery plan to operate from tomorrow.

However, this will depend on the percentage of fully vaccinated employees.

Companies with 80-100% fully vaccinated employees can operate at 100% capacity.

Those with 60-79% fully vaccinated employees can operate at 80% capacity, while those with 40-59% fully vaccinated employees can operate at 60% capacity.

And while the government understood that there were those who were concerned about the risk of the virus spreading, these requirements were set after careful consideration, Muhyiddin said.

“We have endured this pandemic for more than a year and many employers have reduced their manpower. This has led to many losing their jobs. We cannot allow this situation to prolong.”

Muhyiddin went on to express hope that the leeway given would be able to stimulate the businesses and reminded them to adhere to the requirements set.

Workers were urged to report to the health ministry ([email protected]), the home ministry (aduan.sop@[email protected]) or the human resources ministry (via the Working For Workers or WFW app) if their employers failed to adhere to the SOPs.

Muhyiddin said more than 900 premises had been shut down between July 26 and Aug 10 for flouting SOPs.

He said recreational parks in states under Phase 1 of the NRC will be reopened from tomorrow but said only jogging, cycling and exercises were permitted.

The public are only allowed to visit parks in their vicinity and are prohibited from going to parks in other districts or states.

Muhyiddin also announced that Langkawi will be reopened to tourists once 80% of its residents were fully inoculated as part of the travel bubble pilot project.

However, only visitors who are fully vaccinated will be allowed in.
