Health director Dr Ismuni Bohari said daily case counts have been continuing to fall to levels not seen since February last year; the expansion of vaccine eligibility to all adults and the public health restrictions in place appear to be finally turning the tide.
Labuan’s caseload stands at 9,740 with 149 deaths as of today (Aug 14).
Ismuni said Labuan’s first recorded Covid-19 case was on Feb 18, 2020, involving a young couple who had visited China.
The wife, aged 22, was from Shandong, China. The couple was detained on arrival from Kuala Lumpur after immigration officers found they had visited China, where the Covid-19 pandemic began, a few days before returning to Labuan.
Since then daily Covid-19 cases have continued to rise.
Ismuni said Labuan has moved into Phase Three of the national recovery plan, having immunised 91.57% of those listed as eligible for vaccination under the national immunisation programme.
