Kuching district police chief Ahsmon Bajah said the 28-year-old frontliner was found unconscious by a colleague at 7.07pm in his room at the King’s Centre here.
According to Ahsmon, the victim, from Mukah, had just been assigned to the quarantine centre on Aug 2.
“It is believed that the victim had died seven hours before he was discovered by his colleague in the room,” he said in a statement. “There were no visible injuries sustained by the victim.”
The statement did not identify the gender of the individual.
Ahsmon said initial investigations also found no elements of forced entry or foul play as the deceased’s personal belongings were still inside the room.
He said the body has been transferred to the Sarawak General Hospital for Covid-19 screening and autopsy.
Police have classified the case as sudden death.
“The police urge the public not to speculate on the case out of respect for the deceased’s family,” he said.
