Tremors felt in KL, Selangor after magnitude 5.6 Sumatra quake

The meteorological department says the quake occurred at 1.19pm today.

The earthquake struck off Padang Sidempuan in North Sumatra at a depth of 19km but there was no tsunami threat.

The meteorological department reported an earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale in North Sumatra, Indonesia, causing tremors in several parts of Peninsular Malaysia today.

It said the earthquake occurred off southeast Padang Sidempuan at 1.19pm at a depth of 19km.

In a statement posted on its website, the department said tremors were felt in buildings in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

However, there was no threat of a tsunami, it said.
