PETALING JAYA:
Tycoon Vincent Tan is sticking with Cardiff City, the English Championship football club he owns, despite speculation that he plans to sell it following his absence at games.

Bluebirds’ chairman Mehmet Dalman said Tan had been unable to travel to attend games due to the Covid-19 pandemic and this had led to people asking him whether the 69-year-old planned to sell the club, the BBC reported.

“People keep asking me if he is going to sell the club but I don’t hear that from him.

“For someone who keeps pumping money like that man does, I just don’t think you can question his commitment,” Dalman was quoted as saying.

He went on to say that Tan, who has owned the club since 2010, loved the team and religiously followed all the matches.

He said Tan had been “incredibly busy”, partly due to the pandemic but speaks to him on a daily basis.

“He’s still fully committed to seeing this team grow and see if they can get promoted.”

Dalman said Berjaya Corporation Bhd’s Group CEO Jalil Rasheed had been appointed to the Cardiff City Football Club board as a non-executive director.

“Having him on that board is a great asset for us.”

Under Tan’s 11-year stint as owner, the club had two separate spells in the Premier League.
