Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s (UKM) Mohammad Agus Yusoff said law minister Takiyuddin Hassan’s announcement on Monday disregarded constitutional principles and could be construed as disrespecting the monarchy and lying to both the Dewan Rakyat and the public at large.
“I see four options in the current situation,” Agus said in a Facebook post.
These are for all the Perikatan Nasional (PN) ministers to resign, Parliament to dissolve, the King appointing a new prime minister if the opposition succeeds in convincing him that they have a majority, or the King calling for a Mageran (National Operations Council).

In any case, he said, the current administration needs to go.
“It turns out that the emergency aimed at overcoming the pandemic has failed. The people are disappointed with the way Covid-19 is managed.
“People are asking how much longer will they be unable to work, how much longer must they sit at home, what their future holds, and how much longer until rising (Covid-19) cases subside.
“I do not see the PN government being able to sufficiently answer the people’s questions.”
Agus said he hoped the constitutional crisis could be resolved and a new government installed next week to provide the country with credible, authoritative leaders.
