Selangor PAS secretary Roslan Shahir Mohd Shahir said other parties have had public rows with the Malay Rulers in the past, but not his party.
He said others had supported those who insulted the Malay Rulers, challenged the King’s instructions, even been sent to prison for insulting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, but PAS had never been involved in anything of the sort.
“What has happened is the King has been aggrieved by the actions of a Cabinet minister who comes from PAS,” he said, referring to law minister Takiyuddin Hassan.
“If there has been any action that has aggrieved the King, then it needs to be rectified and corrected so that both institutions of the government, that is the Palace and Cabinet, are in line.
“PAS has remained loyal to the Malay Rulers throughout history and will continue to defend this institution in easy or hard times. No one should tarnish PAS’ good relationship with the Palace,” he said.
Pondering on the fate of the government following the Palace’s statement earlier today, he said: “The government has rebelled against the King.”
He added that PAS had always defended the royal institution as the Malay Rulers were the heads of Islam in the country.
The Dewan Rakyat erupted into chaos with shouts of “derhaka” (treason) and calls for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to resign after the King revealed that he had not given consent for the revocation of the emergency ordinances.
In a statement, Istana Negara said Takiyuddin’s statement in Parliament on July 26 was inaccurate and had misled the MPs in the Dewan Rakyat.
Meanwhile, Takiyuddin and Dewan Rakyat speaker Azhar Azizan Harun are set to resign over the controversy, a source told FMT earlier today.
