Amanah wants police probe against Takiyuddin and Idrus

The party's legal bureau head, Zulqarnain Lukman, hopes there will be no double standards in the law enforcement process.

PETALING JAYA:
Amanah’s legal bureau has urged the police to investigate de facto law minister Takiyuddin Hassan and attorney-general Idrus Harun.

Its chairman, Zulqarnain Lukman, hoped police would act professionally against them and there would be no double standards in the law enforcement process.

This comes after the revelation today that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had not consented to the revocation of the emergency ordinances (EOs).

What the King told Takiyuddin and Idrus during an earlier virtual audience, Zulqarnain said, was that the revocation of ordinances should be tabled and debated in Parliament.

“The bureau takes the King’s statement seriously. The actions of Takiyuddin and Idrus were unconstitutional and were in complete disregard to the pledges and oaths they made before taking office,” Zulqarnain said in a statement today.

He said in addition to the two of them, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and all members of the Cabinet should also be collectively responsible under Article 43(3), where the Cabinet must be accountable to Parliament at all times, including during an emergency.

“There is no other action that is more dignified than for them to resign over their failure to defend the royal institution, Parliament and the Federal Constitution,” he said.

Zulqarnain added that this issue could also involve a crime as action could be taken under Section 121 of the Penal Code and sections related to activities that affect democracy, namely Sections 124B, 124C, 124H and 124I of the Penal Code.
