23 summoned by cops over black flag convoy

Protest organiser condemns the police action and calls on Malaysians to converge on Dataran Merdeka on July 31.

Protest organiser Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat expects police to call up more people to give their statements tomorrow.
PETALING JAYA:
A total of 23 youths have been summoned by police for taking part in a “Black Flag” vehicle convoy to protest against the government, protest organiser Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat said.

More were expected to give their statements tomorrow at several locations, including the Kajang, Brickfields and Dang Wangi district police stations.

FMT can confirm that six individuals had been called by Dang Wangi police to give their statements over the convoy. Dang Wangi police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah also confirmed that several more people would be summoned to give their statements tomorrow.

The protest organisers condemned the police action and said it was aimed at intimidating the youths for expressing their freedom of speech even though they had not breached any Covid-19 prevention rules.

“Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat will not falter and we call on all Malaysians, especially those in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, to converge on Dataran Merdeka on July 31 at 11am,” it said in a statement today.

It was estimated that more than 100 vehicles had joined in the convoys across the country from 11am to 5pm yesterday.

In Kuala Lumpur, at least 10 cars were seen waving black flags and driving in a convoy around 11.20am, starting from the Bangsar LRT station and heading towards Dataran Merdeka before driving back to the same LRT station.
