In a statement, Dang Wangi police said the public should not be influenced by any invitation or calls by certain parties to gather in the capital city.
“As long as the movement control order is in place, gatherings and social activities are not allowed,” it said.
It warned of action to be taken against those found to breach the rules including compounds.
Last Saturday, a group of 20 protesters, dressed in black, organised a small-scale protest at Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur.
The group, known as Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat (SSR), was protesting to express unhappiness against the government for its alleged failure in handling the Covid-19 pandemic.
They are also behind the popular #Lawan protest online, involving a mass display of black flags across social media.
Dang Wangi police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah has said that SSR is a coalition of political parties, namely the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA), Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang), Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).
At Dataran Merdeka, they brought effigies of corpses to symbolise the rising number of deaths and rampant suicides due to the pandemic and 14 black flags to convey people’s anger from across Malaysia.
Their demands include for the prime minister to resign, a full parliamentary session to be held, and an automatic moratorium for all.
Today, Malaysia had a record high of over 15,573 Covid-19 cases.
