
With this, the number of Delta cases detected in Malaysia has hit 189.
The Institute for Medical Research and the Institute of Health and Community Medicine at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, which are working on the matter, also found 10 new cases of the Beta variant and three of the Alpha variant.
“The country has recorded a total of 206 Beta cases, 14 Alpha cases, 13 Theta cases, four Kappa cases and three Eta cases (to date),” he told a press conference today.
This brings the total number of variants of concern (Alpha, Beta, Delta) and variants of interest (Theta, Kappa, Eta) cases to 429.
Of the 106 Delta cases identified over the 10 day period, the vast majority were detected in Sarawak, which recorded 76 cases.
This was followed by Selangor (10), Pahang (8), Johor (4), Kuala Lumpur (3), Kedah (2), Perak (1), Negeri Sembilan (1) and Kelantan (1).
Sarawak has also recorded the greatest number of variant cases overall with a total of 152, making up over a third of all the variant cases in Malaysia.
