PETALING JAYA:
Three lorries carrying aid from preacher Ebit Lew were among several vehicles forced to turn back at the Bentong roadblock early Tuesday morning for not having the required permits.

Bentong district police chief Zaiham Mohd Kahar said the three lorries, which were carrying cargo for Ebit Lew’s humanitarian mission to the East Coast, did not follow the standard operating procedures (SOP) set out by the National Security Council (MKN).

Zaiham told Sinar Harian that the lorries were on their way to parts of Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan.

“According to MKN’s SOPs, all NGOs must obtain permission from the state disaster management committee to distribute disaster relief or humanitarian aid,” he was quoted as saying.

“The lorries did not have any documents for that purpose and were told to turn back.”

Zaiham said all drivers complied with the instructions and no compounds were issued.

He added that as of 5pm today, neither he nor the Bentong district police headquarters had received any enquiries from Ebit’s team on the matter.

On Monday, Ebit posted photos of trucks delivering aid across Malaysia, stating that he had sent 10 trucks across the country.
