In a statement today, Sarawak PKR communications chief Abun Sui Anyit also thanked police for the arrest of the 26-year-old suspect, who had been on the run for more than five years.
“Considering the case is still under police investigation, Sarawak PKR hopes that the public will not make any speculation that will interfere in the prosecution,” Abun said.
Dayakdaily reported today that Sarawak police had finally arrested one of the men wanted for the June 2016 murder of Bill Kayong, who was also a land activist.
The suspect was arrested in China and was deported to Kuala Lumpur today.
Kayong, 43, whose Muslim name was Mohd Hasbie Abdullah, was gunned down while seated in his Toyota Hilux about 8.30am on June 21, 2016, at a traffic light intersection in Lutong, near the E-Mart supermarket in Jalan Miri-Bintulu.
The murder was believed to be linked to his work as an advocate on social issues, especially on indigenous rights and land issues.
