This comes as many healthcare workers who supported the strike campaign by contract doctors on social media were said to be under investigation by the authorities.
“Gerakan Hartal Doktor Kontrak is very much concerned about recent harassment by law enforcers towards healthcare workers who are supportive and sympathetic towards the plight of contract doctors.
“Many healthcare workers have reported that they received various threats and had been investigated because they had shown support towards the contract doctors on social media,” the group’s secretariat said in a statement today.
Yesterday, the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) had also voiced a similar concern.
“Although MMA is aware that the police are allowed to conduct investigations, we strongly condemn the nature of this exercise targeting doctors who have supported our campaign, championing the rights of healthcare workers in the country.”
The group also concurred with MMA’s statement, saying ”their rights and freedom to express their solidarity with contract doctors by supporting Gerakan Hartal Doktor Kontrak and (the) Black Monday campaign by MMA is not a violation of the law and any harassment or attempt to curtail their voices is indeed a violation of their human rights.”
According to the group, their demands were important for the sake of the future of contract doctors and Malaysia’s healthcare in general.
