Man held for sedition over post ‘insulting’ Johor Crown Prince

The suspect was nabbed at his home in Ayer Hitam after 10 police reports were lodged against him.

Johor Police are investigating a 31-year old man for sedition for allegedly insulting the Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim on social media.

Johor police chief Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the suspect has been remanded for four days starting today to also facilitate investigations into insulting the modesty of a person and improper use of network facilities.

The suspect who goes by “Amirul _Naito” on Instagram, he added, was arrested at his home last night in Kg Seri Desa, Ayer Hitam. Police also seized his handphone.

Ayob Khan said police nabbed the suspect, who was previously probed for criminal intimidation, after 10 reports were lodged against him.

He went on to advise the public to be responsible on social media.

“We will take stern action against posts that contain disgusting comments.”
