Driver killed after lorry laden with frozen chicken lands in river in Perai

GEORGE TOWN:
A lorry driver was killed when his vehicle loaded with frozen poultry crashed into a river off the North-South Expressway near Seberang Jaya, Perai, this afternoon.

The body of the driver, whose identity and age had yet to be ascertained, was found in the Sungai Derhaka, not far from the scene of the accident.

According to a fire department spokesman, the lorry was involved in a crash with a car near the Seberang Jaya Mosque. It veered off the guardrails and crashed into the river at 1.30pm.

A co-driver was fished out of the river by passers-by. The driver’s body was located after two hours by a search mounted by the Perai fire station.

The body was sent to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for a post-mortem. The co-driver was also sent to the same hospital for treatment.
