Datuk to be charged over RM16mil bribes from Tan Sri developer

Source says the man is said to have received the money for the development of land belonging to a cooperative.

The Datuk also faces 160 money laundering charges following an MACC probe last August.
GEORGE TOWN:
A man in Penang with the title Datuk is expected to be charged tomorrow with corruption involving RM16 million in kickbacks from a developer with a Tan Sri title.

According to a source, the Datuk had allegedly received kickbacks from the developer to appoint his company to develop land owned by a cooperative.

The source said the Datuk, who is in charge of the cooperative, also faces 160 money laundering charges following an investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) last August.

He is expected to be charged for money laundering in Kuala Lumpur next week.

MACC has invited the media to the sessions court in Butterworth tomorrow where it said the head of a cooperative is expected to be charged.
