Klang hospital suspends outpatient services

Priority being given for Covid-19 patients. Other services affected include specialist clinics, physiotherapy and occupational therapy, as well as prescription refills.

Outpatient treatment services at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah have been shut down temporarily since yesterday.
PETALING JAYA:
Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah in Klang has suspended outpatient treatment services since yesterday to prioritise the increasing number of Covid-19 patients.

Hospital director Dr Zulkarnain Mohd Rawi said among other services affected were its outpatient specialist clinics at the ambulatory care centre, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and prescription refills.

“Patients who have an appointment at a specialist clinic are advised not to come to the hospital until further notice,” he said in a statement today.

He added that new appointment dates for both prescription refills and to see a doctor would be sent to patients via SMS.

“Patients are advised to be alert to their SMS notifications so as not to miss their new appointment dates and not have their medicine supply cut off throughout this closure,” Zulkarnain said.

The hospital has been bursting at its seams in recent days with patients forced to lie on stretchers outside the emergency room.

To solve the matter, health minister Dr Adham Baba said an additional 60 beds and more equipment would be sent to the hospital.

The army will also be called in to set up a 50-bed field hospital on the grounds of HTAR.

With the rise in case numbers, Adham said the government would also be providing additional beds and equipment to health facilities, including field and army hospitals, in the Klang Valley.

The state health department director, Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman, said today that a third hospital in Selangor is being prepared to fully handle Covid-19 cases in view of the increasing number of patients in the state.
