MRT Putrajaya Line’s first phase postponed to November

MRT Corp says the start of the service will now coincide with Phase Four of the national recovery plan when all economic sectors are expected to be fully open.

Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) has decided to postpone the opening date for MRT Putrajaya Line Phase 1 scheduled this August to mid-November 2021.

In a statement today, MRT Corp chief executive officer Mohd Zarif Hashim said the new opening date for the launch event would take place during Phase Four of the national recovery plan when the country’s economy is expected to be fully open.

He said the section between Kwasa Damansara and Kampung Batu stations is 99% complete while construction of the MRT Putrajaya Line is progressing well and has passed the 90% overall completion mark.

However, he said, MRT Corp decided to extend the trial operations in order to ensure that the operator achieves the required level of competency, adding that trial operations which started on April 29, are being carried out on this stretch.

“The original training schedule was impacted by the current lockdown and the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) which is being enforced in most parts of Selangor and selected locations in Kuala Lumpur,” he added.
