Liu called by police over court complex incident

Police say they have opened two investigation papers against the Sungai Pelek assemblyman.

DAP’s Sungai Pelek assemblyman Ronnie Liu was at the Raub court complex yesterday to support 18 durian farmers arrested for allegedly encroaching a forest reserve.
PETALING JAYA:
Police have called Sungai Pelek assemblyman Ronnie Liu to the Raub police station to give a statement over his alleged involvement in an incident at the Raub court complex yesterday.

Pahang Criminal Investigations Department chief Mohd Yusri Othman said police have opened two investigation papers against Liu, including alleged obstruction of public servants in the discharge of their duties.

He also told FMT that police were investigating whether Liu had breached any SOPs.

Earlier, Harian Metro quoted Yusri as saying the investigations were being carried out under Section 186 of the Penal Code and the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations (Measures within an Infection Area) 2021.

The DAP assemblyman was released on police bail yesterday.

It was reported that a tussle had broken out at the court complex when 18 durian farmers, who were suspected of encroaching the Batu Talam forest reserve, were brought to the court for remand proceedings.

The 17 men and one woman had since been rearrested and remanded to assist investigations.

Counsel Samantha Chong Yin Xin, representing the 18, aged between 17 and 50, said the remand order was issued in Raub today. The Pahang forestry department was represented by investigating officer Asmadi Mohd.

In a video, which has since gone viral, Liu was seen questioning police officers over the arrests in front of a police vehicle transporting the farmers.
