PETALING JAYA:
With no job for more than a month, Sulaiman Abdul Samad has been struggling to take care of his family, including his son who has dyskinetic cerebral palsy and epilepsy.

To make things worse, his 13-year-old son’s wheelchair was stolen and the family members had to carry the boy everywhere.

Sulaiman, a 38-year-old contractor, has been at his wit’s end since the start of the movement control order (MCO) 3.0 as he could not provide even the most basic necessities such as milk and diapers for his son.

“It’s already so hard for the family because we need to take care of our son who is sick. He can’t walk and talk. And now we can’t even afford milk and diapers for him,” Sulaiman lamented.

Sulaiman’s son, Muhammad Latif Zahwan, has been suffering from both disorders since he was nine months old.

Sulaiman’s wife, Liza Hori, said her son has not been able to leave the house as his wheelchair was stolen 10 months ago.

“When we bring him to the hospital, we have to carry him everywhere which is really hard. We can’t take him out at all,” she said.

After learning of their plight, Seputeh MP Teresa Kok visited Sulaiman’s house in PPR Bukit Jalil II and presented a custom-made wheelchair to Latif who looked overjoyed when he saw it.

Liza was overwhelmed with emotion and thankful for Kok’s gift to Latif.

“I have reached out to so many people for help but no one did. I had already given up on getting Latif a wheelchair because it’s just so expensive. I’m really grateful, thank you,” she said with tears in her eyes.

Kok also donated a food basket consisting of milk powder, diapers, five kgs of rice, noodles and more.

She hoped that these donations could help Sulaiman’s family for a little while but encouraged the public to donate to the family.
