SUBANG JAYA:
The government will conduct a study on Covid-19 cases nationwide to consider relaxing the SOPs for Phase One of the movement control order in the national recovery plan for certain states, says home minister Hamzah Zainudin.

He said the matter would be discussed with senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob at the National Security Council technical committee before an announcement is made.

“It is expected to be announced tomorrow. From the data, we will know which states can be be given flexibility.

“This proposal aims to give some freedom and relief. The number of cases in Selangor has caused the people to feel overwhelmed,” he said at a press conference, after leading a major inspection drive as part of Op Patuh to check compliance with SOPs by companies.

In the meantime, Hamzah said the large-scale operations to check on SOP compliance starting today would witness the mobilisation of police assets such as drones and helicopters in selected areas.

“Today, we see the operation being conducted in an integrated manner. The focus is on Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

“In addition, detailed data on the outcome of the operation will be received tonight and I will announce it tomorrow,” he said.

Also present during the inspection were deputy inspector-general of police Mazlan Lazim, and internal security and public order department deputy director (special operations force) Mastor Mohd Arif.

During the inspection, a steel structural fabrication plant here was raided by the enforcement team as it was not in the manufacturing sector and was not supposed to operate.
