PETALING JAYA:
Prasarana Malaysia Bhd has announced the appointment of Jamaludin Ibrahim as its new group chairman, replacing Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.

Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah will also take on the role of president and CEO, said the rail operator in a statement today.

Tajuddin was removed as chairman recently, immediately after his controversial press conference on the two-train LRT crash on May 24. Azharuddin will replace Muhammad Nizam Alias.

The appointments are effective July 15.

Jamaludin spent 12 years as president and group CEO of telecommunications giant Axiata while Azharuddin was formerly the CEO of the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD).

Jamaludin is also one of four prominent businessmen named to the Economic Action Council (EAC) by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin in March last year.

“The board of directors and Prasarana group welcome the appointment of Jamaludin and Azharuddin.

“Both figures have extensive experience in leading large companies in terms of operations and administration, as well as their involvement in formulating policies and initiatives for the public sector.

“This is a huge advantage for Prasarana in pursuing its agenda to improve quality public transport services,” it said.

Prasarana said Jamaludin’s appointment was in line with the government’s aspiration for the company to gain more revenue and develop into a successful corporate entity.

On the other hand, it said Azharuddin’s appointment would provide synergies and perspectives from a public transport standpoint due to his extensive experience in the land, air and public transport industry.

With these new appointments, Prasarana said it was confident of achieving the company’s mission of implementing strategic transformation in the public transport system, drive economic growth and be a catalyst to revitalise commercial and business sectors.

It said the three main focus for Jamaludin and Azharuddin would include the improvement and enhancement of overall operational efficiency (in terms of safety and operational reliability), increase use of transportation services and financial sustainability.
