Sabah MACC nabs cop in graft probe

Sabah MACC has detained a policeman who had allegedly demanded money to return a motorcycle and passport belonging to a Pakistani man.
KOTA KINABALU:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today nabbed a policeman for allegedly accepting RM3,500 to return belongings taken from a Pakistan national today.

It was learned that the policeman, in his 20s, had demanded the money from the man earlier.

According to a source, the sum was given to the policeman in return for his favour in returning items that were seized earlier. The items included a motorcycle and the Pakistani man’s passport.

Sabah MACC chief S Karunanithy confirmed the arrest when contacted.

He said the suspect was detained in one of the districts in the state at 11.30am.

The man is being held for 24 hours for questioning under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009, he added.
