The former international trade and industry minister said those who understood laws and regulations relating to parliamentary sessions would be able to accurately determine the earliest date possible for the next sitting.

“People don’t want to hear any excuses or expected (dates) any more,” she said in a statement. “The rules cannot be sidelined.”

She added that Parliament was already equipped with plastic screens and that all MPs were required to wear face masks as well as follow all the SOPs. All MPs have already been vaccinated.

Rafidah said there were various issues that needed to be addressed, including the billions of ringgit that have been spent and the effects, proposals to increase the debt ceiling and the national recovery plan.

She noted that the people were still facing difficulties because the government’s actions and its stimulus packages have not brought the desired results.

Putrajaya has yet to offer any clarification on a clear strategy on the country’s recovery post-pandemic, she added.

“Don’t delay it any more. Begin the process of enabling a parliamentary sitting as soon as possible, that is, immediately.

“The people need a national administration that is efficient, clean and properly understands their needs.”

Earlier today, Istana Negara issued a statement saying the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, had reiterated his stand that Parliament needs to reconvene as soon as possible. It was the third time the King had made the call.

The King added that proceedings needed to reconvene according to the guidelines and Covid-19 SOPs set by the government and Parliament.
