Netizen arrested for insulting Malay Rulers on Twitter

The suspect will face a remand hearing tomorrow over his tweet.
PETALING JAYA:
A netizen suspected of being behind a post insulting the Malay rulers on Twitter has been arrested.

The Twitter user posted the comment on May 31 at 11am, and at the time of publication, the tweet has yet to be removed from the platform.

The Bangi-based suspect, 27, went to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters (IPD) with his lawyer, Rajsurian Pillai, at 10am this morning after being called in by police to assist in the investigation.

The suspect was then arrested at 1pm after their statement was recorded.

“The remand application will be made tomorrow morning at the Dang Wangi IPD,” Rajsurian said, adding that the suspect’s phone was also confiscated as part of the police investigation.

The suspect is currently being held at the Dang Wangi IPD.

The case involves Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998 relating to improper use of network facilities, and Section 4 of the Sedition Act 1948.
