PETALING JAYA:
The women’s wing of PKR is aiming to win 20 parliamentary seats in the next general election (GE15), says its chief Fuziah Salleh.

During her closing remarks at the 15th PKR national congress today, which was held virtually, Fuziah noted that the party currently had 11 women MPs.

“One betrayed us but that’s all right, we can replace her. Now, we’re preparing for nine more female MPs, not just candidates, to come out of GE15,” she said.

It is understood that the individual Fuziah was referring to was former PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin, who defected to Bersatu last year.

Fuziah said Wanita PKR wanted to ensure “meaningful representation”, with more women holding leadership roles nationwide, adding that they should also address non-gender specific issues.

Commenting on the Sheraton Move, Fuziah urged all delegates to leave the matter in the past and prepare to move forward for the sake of the country.

She called on the party to focus on piecing back its divided branches as well as re-evaluate its values, aspirations and principles.

“We’ve been divided enough after the betrayal. Now, we need to move forward as one. We should encourage care and believe in one another,” she said.

PKR now has 2,028 branches nationwide, including 259 new branches registered this year.
