Akhramsyah Muammar Ubaidah Sanusi asked what financial measures would be included to help the economy, especially with most sectors only opening later in the year.
He asked if the automatic loan moratorium would be given to borrowers until the nation moves into Phases 2, 3 or 4, and if the overnight policy rate (OPR) would be reduced to alleviate borrowers’ burdens.
“Will the i-Sinar programme be extended? Or are there any new ideas that can be introduced aside from allowing the people to make use of their own savings?” he asked in a statement today.
“The importance of social aspects is also coming to the fore. The people are asking about the plan to recover our community development which has long been delayed.
“Will the government implement education reforms to boost our education system which has been affected by the pandemic for 15 months and failed to transition smoothly with the new norms.”
Akhramsyah also questioned if the entire nation would move into Phase 2 of the MCO if it met the thresholds, as specific states might not be experiencing the same situation reflected by national data.
“Will all areas get to enjoy the loosening of the MCO in moving to Phase 2? What about localities where cases are still spreading quickly?
“Will the entire nation get to enjoy a relaxed MCO when the 10% vaccination target is achieved, although the percentage at each locality might be very different?” he asked.
Muhyiddin Yassin had said the transition to Phase 2 would happen once the average number of cases drops to 4,000 a day, when the health system is no longer at a critical level, ICU bed usage is reduced to a moderate level, and 10% of the population are fully vaccinated.
Akhramsyah also slammed the government for taking so long to come up with a Covid-19 exit plan, with Muhyiddin taking over as prime minister more than a year ago.
He questioned if the recovery plan was done in a hurry after Pejuang’s pro tem chairman, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, proposed for a national operations council or Majlis Gerakan Negara (Mageran) to take over the administration of the country.
