SEPANG:
A special officer to Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat has lodged a police report against a senior lawyer for allegedly bringing the judiciary into disrepute.

Sepang district police chief Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusoff said the report was made on June 7.

“We have started investigations and so far we have recorded statements from four witnesses,” he told FMT.

Wan Kamarul said the report had been classified under Section 233 (1) (a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act for alleged improper use of network facilities.

Those found guilty could be fined up to RM50,000 or sentenced to a maximum one-year jail term or both.

Wan Kamarul said the investigation was also being conducted under Section 500 of the Penal Code for alleged criminal defamation and under Section 504 of the same law for intentional insult to provoke breach of peace.

Sections 500 and 504 impose a jail term of up to two years or with a fine or both.

Wan Kamarul declined to further comment on the case as investigation is still underway.

Sources however told FMT the lawyer apparently sent several text messages to a foreign client with one stating “the path is covered till the CJ”.

It is learned that the messages are in connection with two civil appeals pending before the Court of Appeal.
