Nurfazhan Mohd Rosli, from Sekolah Tinggi Muar, who obtained 5As in SPM, said he was satisfied with his results.
“Despite facing some difficulties with online learning, I did my best and I have no regrets,” he said when contacted by FMT.
However, despite his good results, Nurfazhan has decided not to pursue tertiary education.
“I’ll be taking over my mother’s sundry shop at Pasar Awam Muar,” he said, adding that his parents did not object to his decision and supported him wholeheartedly.
Another student, Muhammad Yuzwan Abdul Rashid, from Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) Balik Pulau, Penang, who passed with flying colours, said he was shocked with his results.
“Straight As! I cried when I saw the results. The waiting has been endless but it was not for nothing. All my hard work has paid off.
“Online classes were not easy and with all my family members at home, I had a hard time focusing on my studies,” he said.
Asked about his future plans, Yuzwan said he was looking for scholarships to continue his studies abroad.
Idris Muzaffar Ariff, from SM Bestari Asia Pacific, in Subang, who obtained 10 As, said he was relieved.
“After SPM ended, none of us were sure when the results would come out and that honestly scared me a lot. I also felt just a tad bit disappointed that I didn’t get straight As in all 12 subjects I took but I’m still very grateful.
“It has been a long two-and-a-half months wait for the results.
“I think I had enough time and resources to study for SPM. However, everyone had a different experience.
“There were times when I felt like I just couldn’t get out of bed to attend classes. Eventually, I got used to these online classes, but they were still nowhere near as effective as physical classes.”
Idris is currently pursuing his A-levels at Sunway College here.
The national average grade of the SPM results for the 2020 batch of students is the best in the past five years, education minister Radzi Jidin said today.
He said the average grade was 4.8 compared to 4.86 in 2019. A lower grade indicates that candidates performed better.
