Clarify SOPs for taxis and limos at roadblocks, IGP told

Drivers say they are confused by the inconsistent enforcement in different areas of the country.

PETALING JAYA:
Taxi and limousine drivers have called on Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani to clarify the overlapping SOPs regarding their sector.

The Federation of Taxi, Car Rental, Limousine and Airport Tax Organisations Malaysia (GTSM) said members have reported inconsistent enforcement at roadblocks across the country in regards to their travel permits.

“As recently as this morning, we received complaints from our members across the country, especially in Penang and Labuan, who claim that they face problems when going through roadblocks,” it said in a statement.

“Our members are not only asked to submit their letter from the international trade and industry ministry, some even complain they are not allowed to operate.

“Are we from the public service sector which, according to the National Security Council’s (MKN) SOP is allowed to operate, still required to obtain a letter of permission from any 10 ministries or agencies listed by the police?

“If one needs to get a letter of permission to operate, please tell us the name of the ministry or agency involved.”

According to the list of permitted services under the total lockdown, such services are allowed to continue operating if they receive a permission letter from the transport ministry.
