In a statement, Ampang Jaya police chief Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the fines were issued under Regulation 17 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within Infected Local Areas) Regulations.
Farouk said enforcement officers were allowed to check one’s identity card to verify if they lived in the neighbourhood they were jogging in.
He said jogging in a residential area that was different from one’s address on their identity card was a violation of the SOPs during the third movement control order (MCO 3.0).
Meanwhile, the Ampang Jaya police are also investigating a social media post over false accusations of the jogging incident. A report has been lodged by one of the officers who had issued the fines.
“The complainant came across several viral posts with baseless defamatory comments and contributed to negative perceptions against the complainant. The complainant claims the comments are untrue and disrespectful,” said Farouk.
The case is being probed under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.
He added that a total of 209 people were fined and three arrested since MCO 3.0 began on May 12. Another 66 people have been fined since the start of the total lockdown on June 1.
“The police urge the public to always comply with the set SOPs. Always check with the National Security Council on what can and cannot be done during the MCO,” he said.
