PUTRAJAYA:
Police have detected cases of residents opening up “alternative” routes and driving against the flow of traffic following the closure of 10 roads along the border with Selangor on June 1.

Putrajaya district police chief Mohd Fadzil Ali said there had also been several cases of frustrated residents damaging road barricades and blinkers.

“We found alternative routes opened up by (Putrajaya) residents living along the border of Selangor,” he told Bernama.

“Along Jalan 7G heading into Putrajaya Sentral, we found many vehicles driving against the flow of traffic towards Puchong because the exit road is closed.”

He said police also found a rat trail near the Presint 20 cemetery.

Fadzil said Putrajaya police had issued 16 compound notices for illegal interstate and inter-district travel since the total lockdown was imposed on June 1.

He said congestion at the four roadblocks was unavoidable because police wanted to ensure that drivers had special permits or were travelling because of an emergency.

The four roadblocks are at Lebuh Sentosa heading out to Lebuhraya Maju Expressway (MEX), Persiaran Selatan heading out to Dengkil (Presint 5), Gate 2A Persiaran Utara heading out to Hospital Serdang (Presint 12) and Gate 3 Persiaran Utara heading to Puchong (Presint 9).

He expressed regret over the action of government department or agency staff who used the designated lane for frontliners at roadblocks to avoid inspection.

“The roadblocks are mounted not to inconvenience the public but to reduce the risk of virus transmission,” he said.
