Finance ministry says the sum shaved off from salaries can be channelled into the relief fund to help victims of disasters, including the pandemic.

Contributions to the disaster relief fund can be made to Akaun Amanah Bencana at Maybank Islamic.
PETALING JAYA:
The finance ministry is encouraging employees at government-linked companies and statutory bodies to consider taking a cut in salaries and gratuity in solidarity with the government.

“The sum is to be channelled into Akaun Amanah Bencana,” the ministry said in a statement this evening, referring to a disaster trust fund to help disaster victims, including those affected by Covid-19.

On May 31, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said all ministers and their deputies will be giving three months’ worth of their salaries to the fund.

The Johor menteri besar and all state executive councillors have also said they will donate three months’ salary to the Johor disaster fund beginning this month, while Penang assemblymen will donate 30% of their June salary to the Covid-19 Penang Fund.

The Sarawak and Perak governments have also announced similar initiatives.

Separately, the ministry said a tax rebate would be given to those who contribute to the trust fund.

Those who wish to contribute to the fund can make deposits to Akaun Amanah Bencana at Maybank Islamic Bhd’s account number 5660 1065 0930.
