KOTA KINABALU:
A Sabah politician who is alleged to have molested an Unduk Ngadau beauty pageant contestant has been remanded for four days to facilitate investigations.

The remand application, which was heard by magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles via virtual conferencing today, was made under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code for investigations under Section 354 of the Penal Code for using criminal force to outrage the modesty of a person.

Charles allowed the application on the grounds that if the politician, who is a member of Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR), were to be released, he might tamper with witnesses and/or the complainant.

Marcel Jude appeared for the 52-year-old politician while Mohamed Anwar Mohamed Jamil represented the prosecution.

The politician was arrested at his office in Asia City here yesterday after a press conference where he was responding to accusations of molesting a beauty pageant contestant and assaulting a Rela personnel.

Meanwhile, Sabah police chief Hazani Ghazali has urged those with information to help in the probe.

He also urged others who may have become victims of similar harassment to also come forward.

So far, he said, police had received only one report on the alleged sexual misconduct against the Unduk Ngadau beauty pageant participant.
