PETALING JAYA:
The public sanitisation exercises in Covid-19 infected areas have been agreed upon and approved by the government, and are not wasteful, says the housing and local government ministry.

The ministry was responding to infectious diseases expert Dr Adeeba Kamarulzaman’s recent statement on how such public sanitisation was a waste of resources.

In a statement, Nor Hizwan Ahmad, political secretary to housing and local government minister Zuraida Kamaruddin, said sanitisation was necessary to prevent the possibility of more Covid-19 infections occurring.

“The new Covid-19 variants that are already in the community show that the development of this virus is fast and changeable.

“The public needs the reassurance and appreciates any efforts made by the government to minimise the risk of infection,” he added.

Hizwan also said the sanitisation exercises were only focused on areas that had been confirmed to have active cases of Covid-19.

He added that these exercises were much more than just a disinfection process but included decontamination, too.

“The process is much more thorough and should be the new norm to ensure safety, cleanliness and health in the community.”

Hizwan also called on Adeeba, who is part of the Selangor Covid-19 task force, to focus on the situation in the state which has recorded the highest number of cases nationwide every day.

“Let’s work together to find a way out because now is not the time to find fault with anyone.

“We must abide and appreciate the government’s efforts in ensuring that the spread of the virus in the country is reduced,” he said.
